Cornflower - pink colour mix (Centaurea cyanus "Classic romantic") 1g, ~220 seeds

875 Ft

The cornflower(Centaurea cyanus) is one of our best known and most loved wild flowers, along with the poppy. Loved by pollinators, it flowers for a relatively long time in the garden. It is a medicinal herb, its flowers are edible, it used to be used to make dye, but it is also excellent for tea, which also gives it a beautiful colour. Early spring sowing with early flowering is an important time for pollinators, but it can also be sown in the autumn, in which case it will have bushier growth in spring/early summer. This variety of 'Classic romantic' is a grafted pink and white variegated cornflower colour mix, along with a single flowered wild blue variety, but also a coloured double flowered and black grafted form is available in our webshop.

Features:

  • other names: daisy, celestial flower, cornflower, blue cornflower, blue flower, succulent, wild musk, sowing slip, imolya, blue concolor, yarrow
  • Latin name: Centaurea cyanus "Classic romantic"
  • family: asteraceae
  • seeds origin: Germany
  • pollination factor: 9/10

Sow the seeds in spring or autumn in a prepared, weed-free plot or pot. You can sow the seeds in their permanent location or transplant them as a few leaf seedlings. Cover the seeds thinly with soil, about half an inch thick. Sprinkle them with water. Keep the soil moist for the first few weeks, and water a little in the spring if sowing in autumn. They will flower as annuals about 10 weeks after sowing, but in autumn sowing they will benefit from the cold effect, giving stronger, more profuse flowering plants the year after sowing.

Admire the spectacle!

TIP: sown before/when the spring bulbs flower, the annuals will flower just as the spring bulbs are disappearing and will cover the drying foliage of the bulbs.
