Thymus serpyllum 0,25g, ~1950 seeds

875 Ft

Narrow-leaved thyme or field thyme(Thymus serpyllum) is a native Hungarian herb that can be found in many places in nature. Its long flowering period (from May to September) makes it a very good pollinator and it is visibly adored and frequently visited by bees and butterflies. It is also increasingly being used abroad as a flowering, care-free weed. Its small stature, beautiful flowers and drought tolerance make it a really good substitute for a lawn. In such cases, it is worth planting the seeds and planting them out later, and they will reproduce quite well. Afterwards, you can plant a palm-sized piece, divided into 3 or 4 parts, and continue in this way until you have covered the area. As a herb, garden thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is more commonly used, but narrow-leaved thyme is also suitable both as a seasoning for meats and as a medicinal herb. It has an antiseptic and antispasmodic effect, aids digestion, is cough suppressant and sedative. It can also be consumed as a tea. It has its highest concentration of active ingredients around noon, when it is best collected.

Sow the seeds in spring or autumn in prepared soil or pots. You can also sow the seeds directly in their permanent location, but it is a good idea to grow them as seedlings to increase the germination rate. Do not cover the seeds with soil, or only very thinly, as they will germinate in the light. Water them. Keep the soil moist during the first few weeks of germination. If sown in early spring, they will not usually flower until the following year; if sown in autumn, they will also flower the following year. Enjoy the spectacle!
