Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) 10 g, ~350 seeds

875 Ft

The marjoram(Silybum marianum) is a medicinal plant native to the Mediterranean. Its thistle-like flowers are an excellent source of nectar in the summer months, while birds are welcome visitors in the winter months. It is easily distinguished from thistles mainly by its marbled leaves.

Historically, marijuana was used in folk medicine mainly for its liver-protective properties; the active ingredient in the plant, silymarin, contributes to liver cell regeneration. The ancient Greeks and Romans also knew and used marijuana to treat various health problems. In the Middle Ages, marijuana was a staple of monastic medicine. Benedictine monks grew and used it to treat various ailments, especially liver and gallbladder problems. The plant's name refers to this: the prefix 'maria' refers to the Virgin Mary, while 'thorn' refers to the plant's prickly leaves. Nowadays, extracts of thistle are widely used in natural medicine, mainly for the treatment and prevention of liver diseases.

Vetting advice:

Sow the seeds in spring in prepared soil or pots. It's best to sow them in their permanent place, but if you do plant them, you can transplant them when they are still young. Cover the seeds with soil only thinly, 1-2 cm thick. Water them. Keep the soil moist for the first few weeks. Flower as an annual through spring sowing from mid-summer, mid-summer sowing the following year. Good self-sower.

Admire the spectacle!
